Adult Protective Services provide for Elders (65 years and over) and Dependent Adults (any person 18-64 years who has a physical and/or mental limitation which restrict his/her ability to carry out normal activities or protect their own rights). Adult Protective Services (APS) investigates allegations of abuse to these two population groups. Elder/Dependent Adult abuse is often referred to as the silent crime because of lack of recognition. Abuse can be physical, sexual, financial or emotional (undue influence). Cases are staffed by a multi-disciplinary team and services are offered to support the elder/dependent adult to remain safe and stable. These services can be case managed for up to 9 months. APS also serves as a point of contact regarding probate conservatorship, especially when there is no family member available. APS works collaboratively with the Ombudsman Advocate when the elder/dependent adult resides in a Long Term Care Facility. San Benito County Adult Protective Services 1111 San Felipe Rd.
