The General Assistance program is a cash assistance
program to help needy individuals and families who are not
eligible for assistance under any other program.
General Assistance is funded by County-only dollars.

A General Assistance Worker in the Health and Human
Services Agency will be able to determine the amount
of benefits an applicant is entitled to.

Anyone has the right to apply for General Assistance.
In order to receive General Assistance, a person
must be a resident of the Sate of California and the
County of San Benito. Assistance is intended for those
individuals who are incompetent, poor, indigent, or
incapacitated by age, illness, or accident and not
supported by relatives or any other source. An applicant
who is employable must be actively seeking employment.

Any real or personal property owned by the applicant
and all income from any source is considered in
