The General Assistance program is a cash assistance program to help needy individuals and families who are not eligible for assistance under any other program. General Assistance is funded by County-only dollars. A General Assistance Worker in the Health and Human Services Agency will be able to determine the amount of benefits an applicant is entitled to. Anyone has the right to apply for General Assistance. In order to receive General Assistance, a person must be a resident of the Sate of California and the County of San Benito. Assistance is intended for those individuals who are incompetent, poor, indigent, or incapacitated by age, illness, or accident and not supported by relatives or any other source. An applicant who is employable must be actively seeking employment. Any real or personal property owned by the applicant and all income from any source is considered in determining eligibility for General Assistance.
